A rumor was circulating a while ago about the US hosting the 2009 cross world championships. Well, we didn’t get it. On July 7th, the UCI awarded the 2009 race to Hoogerheide, Netherlands. Here is the world’s schedule for the next three years:
- 2007 – Hoogledge-Gits, Belgium
- 2008 – Treviso, Italy
- 2009 – Hoogerheide, Netherlands
A quick survey of the 2006-2007 UCI cross calendar shows that there are 132 races. Here they are distributed by country:
36 – Belgium
32 – USA
11 – Netherlands
10 – Switzerland
9 – Czech Republic
7 – France
6 – Germany
6 – Luxemburg
5 – Italy
5 – Great Britain
2 – Canada
2 – Spain
1 – Japan
Bringing a cyclocross world championship to the USA seems like a pretty logical choice. We’ve got the love! What do we have to do to get worlds over here?
