Cross love from the soggy northwest
Anyone who has ever competed in a mountain bike race at any level can relate to this clip. Whether you are a first timer, expert, or pro, MTB racing is just plain grueling. I’ll always hold a special place in my heart for World Cup mountain biking and the athletes who choose to compete at this level.

We still haven’t found the perfect speculoos but we’re traveling the land and testing as many out as we can find. We believe this to be a well hidden secret of the top Belgian pros. When dipped in silty coffee, the sweet bread produces mythical powers. Also available in a paste.

Went into the woods today, and it was just like this but without the people:
“You can’t outride death” is the tagline to this mountain biking themed horror flick. Two messengers embark on a romantic weekend of mountain biking in the mountains of Canada, only to find themselves on the run from a homicidal downhiller. It sounds like the perfect horror movie, but turns out to be the most painfully boring cycling-thriller ever made. Watch it and you’ll be begging for the downhiller to chop the messengers to bits so you can go for a ride, clean out your garage, or do your taxes.
The best parts, however, are all in the trailer below. Watch closely, and enjoy.
I got home from work today and found the mash dvd on our coffee table. It’s like a skate video without the tricks. Actually, it’s like the picture below but without Kanye West or the outer space, and with a bunch of people blowing stop signs at high speed.

Which reminded me to go and renew my Bicycle Transportation Alliance membership. And then think about how I should renew my IMBA and PUMP club memberships. And also, those sunny days of cyclocross racing:

We Just Work Here is Brian Vernor’s latest film, and takes a look into the inspired lives of the employees of Santa Cruz Bicycles. I had a chance to meet Brian and catch a screening at this past weekend’s Bicycle Film Festival here in Portland.
Watch the trailer:
From the Bicycle Film Festival’s description:
Every luscious shot in this film exudes love of the bicycle. It follows the workers of Santa Cruz Bicycles, from the factory to the trails, streets and track.
It’s true, the film exudes love of the bicycle. It makes you realize how much you love bicycles, and makes you want get out and ride through the hazy way it captures your daydreams of rides past. It wakes up those slow, shoe gazing memories of you and your friends having a blast out in the woods.
What I loved most about the film, though, is the way it delivers the passions of the Santa Cruz employees off the bike. The film shows that it isn’t always about getting rad on the bike. That it’s about the people, and how the bicycle can be a beautiful tool for bringing all kinds of people together to share their external passions. Bicycle riding has long been a way to surround myself with like minded people that help inspire the other parts of my life. We Just Work Here reminded me that it’s not the gear, or the trails, or the racing, but the people that make cycling great.
Brian Vernor is co-creator of the modern cyclocross classic Pure Sweet Hell. He is also an employee of Santa Cruz Bicycles, which now offers a cyclocross bike.
